Tournament Teams 2024-25

Basics of TOurnament Teams

Competitive, school-based program; boys grades 4-8 and girls grades 5-8
2022-2023: 21 teams, about 200 players
Season: early November – early March
LOHS Coaches run evaluations, select teams
Boys teams split evenly grades 4-5; by skill level grades 6-8
Girls teams split by skill level in grades 5-8
Volunteer coaches grades 4-5; paid non-parent head coaches grades 6-8 (based on coach availability)
About 25 practices (2+ per week), 24+ games
All practices in the Lake Oswego area
100% weekend games, roughly every other weekend
Tournament play in the Greater Portland Metropolitan area, with a few exceptions for certain grades/teams

Players in 4th & 5th will play a minimum of 50% of the game
Players in 6th-8th will play a minimum of 30% of the game
Minimums subject to player attendance and grade-appropriate behavior (effort and focus)
LYB expects basketball to be primary sport for the season
Missing practices due to other activities may affect playing time

Two – 60 to 75 minute tryouts (Oct. 15, 22)
Players are expected to attend both tryouts
LOHS basketball staff conducts evaluations, selects teams (with assistance from paid, non-parent, Laker Youth coaches)
Evaluations are closed to parents
Target roster size: 9-10 players (8 or 11 possible under certain circumstances)
Cuts are possible
Results will be posted to the website the Wednesday after the second tryout at 5pm.
Bib numbers will be used
